This page explains how Curos handles your data when you use Ichnus. It is written in plain language and is part of the Terms of use. Curos is a non-profit funded by foundations, donations, and grants, which shapes what we do and do not do with your data.

What Curos does not do

  • No advertising. Ichnus has no ads and no ad targeting, so there is no reason to profile you for advertisers.
  • No data sales. Curos does not sell, rent, or trade your data, and never shares it with data brokers.
  • No training by default. Conversations are not used to train or fine-tune Curos models unless you opt in.
  • No third-party analytics on your content. We do not send your conversation text to external analytics or advertising services.

What Curos does do

  • Operate the service. Curos processes your conversations to generate responses, sync history across your devices, and keep the service reliable.
  • Store what you ask it to. Chat history is kept so you can return to conversations. The default retention window is 30 days, after which conversations are deleted. You can shorten the window or turn history off entirely.
  • Account data. Email, sign-in details, and settings are stored to operate your account. API keys are stored in hashed form.
  • Metadata. We keep limited technical metadata, such as request volume and error counts, to run the service and detect abuse. This metadata is not linked to your conversation content for profiling.

Opt-in use of conversations

You may choose to allow your conversations to be used for evaluation and improvement. Opting in is entirely voluntary and off by default:

  • You can opt in or out at any time in Settings, per account or per conversation.
  • Opting in may allow your conversations to be used to evaluate models and, if you agree, to improve them.
  • You can withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal applies to future use and to conversations you mark for exclusion.
  • Curos never uses conversations from users who have not opted in, including in evals and incident reviews, unless required by law.

Retention and deletion

  • Chat history: 30 days by default, configurable, and turned off entirely if you disable history.
  • Deleted conversations: removed from the active service immediately and purged from backups within 90 days.
  • Account deletion: you can delete your account in Settings. This deletes your conversations, settings, and API keys, and stops further data collection.

Curos does not share your data with third parties except to operate the service, such as hosting providers bound by data-processing agreements. If compelled by a legal request, Curos will review it and will notify you before disclosing unless prohibited. Disclosures are counted in the annual transparency report.
